It’s the difference between IronMan and Star Wars,
between Sponge Bob and Power Rangers,
It’s going from dressing at Mommy’s direction to emerging in the morning fully and properly clothed on your own.
It’s branching out from your family to focus on friendships,
Progressing from “helping out” to having an allowance ($2) and chores (making the bed, feeding the dogs),
Moving past needing the companionship of a parent to fall asleep at night to being content to devour a big pile of books until your eyes frift closed.
It’s transitioning from running to “Mommy!” at the end of the school day to running from Mommy so you can chase your friends until “Come on K, it’s time to go home!”
You went from a mouth full of teeth to missing your entire front grill, top and bottom, like a befreckled jack-o-lantern,
From reading picture books to reading Harry Potter (and a little mythology somewhere in the middle).

Is it Memories Captured time again! Yikes! I’m going to need to get on that!
Love those two pictures. Not a huge change, but a HUGE change. Growing up – kids love it, but it makes parents sad sometimes.

Wow – amazing how fast kids grow… My daughter is starting High School in the fall and I don’t even know how this happened so fast!

Kintergarten is such a big year of so much growth. It seems to be the year when everything changes. Congrats to your big guy. Enjoy the summer.

Wow I believe all those changes – you can see the differences just in how much he has grown!
All that really happens in just a year?

Picture books to Harry Potter? That’s amazing! I am always floored to see how much a child changes in just one year. He almost doesn’t even look like the same kid. Sweet post!

Sigh…
We just did this. My youngest had Kindergarten graduation tonight. So bittersweet.
Love love love the side by side pictures. It is such a big year!
I love the difference between the first and last day. I’ve seen a bunch of ideas like this on Pinterest. My trouble is that I will probably take the first picture and probably forget about the ending picture!

I have been meaning to comment on this post since I first saw it. My son is about to start kindergarten in a few weeks and your descriptions about the beginning of the year remind me so much of my son! And I love the two pictures, such a big change, such a big boy!
It hit home, and it’s such a sweet post

Thanks Michelle. I spent most of last August depressed about the beginning of kindergarten. It’s such a big change and marks the end of their world revolving around the home nearly exclusively but watching them grow during that year is a great joy.
